Balmacewen Kapa Haka @ Polyfest 2026

Ko wai mātou? This year we have reinstated the name, Kōtahitanga, as the name of our roopū.

This word means unity, solidarity, and collective action, things so integral to performance.

Kapa Haka, reminds us that our strength is formed through whanaungatanga, the strong connections within a group, whether that be in kapa haka, class, sports team, music group, or whānau.

The Kapa Haka is a large roopū of 120 rangatahi, who performed at Polyfest with huge energy and passion, telling the story of Parihaka. I tino kaha me ngakau nui te whakawhakaari o te Kapa Haka o Balmacewen!

We are so grateful for the support from teachers and whānau, including several ex-pupils who came to tautoko the Kapa Haka. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou.
