Water polo Term One

This term we had three teams entered in the competition - two in the Open grade and one in the Championship grade.
It was fantastic to see so many new Year 7 students giving water polo a go and to see the progress in skills and teamwork developing over the term.
On Friday the Bronze team finished with a win - their first of the season! Well done and thank you to Logan who is coaching the team.
In the Open grade final Balmac Silver played Tahuna who had narrowly beaten them in the early rounds. It was a very tight game in the first half before Silver pulled away with a couple of quick goals and some excellent goalkeeping to win the Open grade 7-4. Thanks to Henry and William who have coached this team this term.
In the Championship grade our Gold team has been unbeaten all season with few teams even scoring against them. However, in the final Taieri came out flying and took an early lead in the game. The Gold team knew they had a game on their hands and it wasn't until the last quarter that they really took the game and won the Championship final in an exciting 8-4 final score. Well done to Nathan our coach and the team who will be going to Christchurch in June to compete in a Winter festival.
I encourage all students who are capable swimmers to think about having a go when we start up again at the end of Term Three and to also think about joining Otago water polo training over the winter terms to keep their skills and fitness up!
A big thank you to the parent managers also and to all the side line supporters. It was a epic finish to our season for all teams!
