Kings High School Tournament

On Friday 22nd October Kings High School ran a Touch Tournament for Year 8 boys. The Balmacewen Year 8A Boys team (The Tornadoes) attended this tournament along with teams from Fairfield, Bathgate, Carisbrook and Tahuna.

We won our first 2 games of the round robin convincingly then faced Tahuna in the Round Robin. Unfortunately we went down by one point after being up by 2 points earlier in the game. The Tornadoes then won the semi final 5-2 and had to face Tahuna again in the grand final. We went ahead early in the game, again being up by 2 points, before Tahuna clawed their way back. Both teams scored once again and the game ended in a 3-3 draw. This meant we had to go to a drop off where each team went down to 4 players. Tahuna ended up closing out the final in a well fought battle 4-3.

Coby Booth was our MVP for the day. He had a huge work rate defensively and scooped well on the 5. Lachie Davies and Luke Ritchie were also selected for Fairplay awards. Both boys were outstanding in their defensive game and made excellent yards on attack. The whole team played well and were an absolute pleasure to coach.

Thank you very much to Dan Koni and his Year 12 students who organised and ran an outstanding tournament. Thank you also to all the referees who gave up their time to help out. It was a really enjoyable and entertaining day (particularly the sideline commentary!). We hope that this becomes an annual fixture in the future.
