A tough finish for our cricket boys

Our boys team travelled to Arrowtown last week to play in the Otago/Southland final.

Our boys had an incredibly tight match against Queenstown Primary. Batting first, Queenstown reached a very respectable 134/5 at the end of their 20 overs. Amos Miller 1-9 and Will Parry 1-12 led the way for our bowlers.

It was always going to be a tough chase for our boys and we were always pushing hard to keep up with the run rate. Excellent contributions from Luke Ritchie (18), Jack Ussher (22) gave us a chance to launch at the end and Will Parry (38) and Oliver Mackenzie (23) almost got us there with some power hitting.

We needed 9 runs from the final over and just fell short losing our last wicket to a run out with 2 balls remaining. A very tense finish indeed.

I was extremely proud of the way our boys played the match and conducted themselves through some pressure situations. The same should be said of our parent  who encouraged and supported all the way. Thanks to you all.

It really doesn't get much closer than this match and I'm sure that the boys will reflect on the experience and learn a lot. They were a pleasure to coach and I look forward to watching their cricketing progress in the future.
