Donations welcome

Our student council would like to support our Muslim community. Read on for more information....

We know how difficult it has been for all New Zealanders since the tragedy that occurred in Christchurch on Friday 15 March.

The Balmacewen student council on behalf of the school would like to send their love and thoughts to all those who have been affected in some way. We value kindness and respect above all else and, like many Kiwis we are humbled and grateful for the love and unity that has spread throughout NZ in support of our Muslim community.

As a school we would like to put together some care packages to support Muslim students at our school and their families. We want them to know that we stand together as one and that we care about them as part of our community.

Over the next week donations for these care packages will be gratefully received. The school council will be collecting non- perishable grocery items that you think may be of benefit. Some examples of useful items are listed below:

Rice, flour, sugar, Canola oil, pasta, canned vegetables (chickpeas, diced tomatoes), jam, tea, coffee, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, hand soap, toothpaste, tissues, dates, lentils, grains, pens, pencils, washing powder, powdered milk, crackers, biscuits, olive oil etc

Any gift vouchers for supermarkets, petrol or local activities would also be much appreciated.

Please send any donations to your child’s classroom throughout this week and next week if you would like to contribute.

Kind regards

Student council
