Today we had a guest speaker to talk to both our Year 7 and Year 8 groups. Andrew is an Olympic Speed Skater and recently biked around the World to raise money for Cancer Research in world record time.

Andrew's visit ties in with our current focus on sport, the body and the Olympics. The  key messages from his talk included having a dream, following your passions and never giving up. Andrew talked about his own journey to set goals to achieve his dream to go the Olympics and the sacrifices and "hard work" to get there. He shared with the students the messages of having good role models in your life and how he had to work and train to pay his own way for equipment and to attend international competition.

Andrew now hold two world records - one in Speed Skating and one for his world bike challenge that he completed last year. He talked about how we need to value and appreciate the country we live in and the opportunities we have here as it is not until you travel elsewhere it the world and return to New Zealand that you can truly value what we often take for granted - fresh air, clean water and food!

Andrew tied his talk into the Olympic values of striving for Excellence, Respect, and Friendship through his own sporting success and ongoing life values. All classes then had the opportunity to ask questions and talk more informally with Andrew after his presentation,
