Read on to hear about our recent problem challenge

To work on our team work and problem solving skills we completed a challenge.

The challenge was:

  • To build the tallest freestanding structure that will support the weight of one marshmallow for 10 seconds.

  • Only 18 minutes to complete the challenge

  • Only a set amount of building materials were allowed to be used by each team:

· 20 sticks of dry spaghetti

· 1 marshmallow

· 1 m masking tape

· 1 m string

· 1 pair of scissors

The winner was Beth and Alice with an impressive tower. Some towers were a success and were able to hold the marshmallow,  while some towers could not stay upright or balance the marshmallow. In our reflection we looked at what made some towers stay up, and looked at possible reasons for some towers falling down. We learnt a lot from towers that remained up but even more from the towers that didn't.
