Principals Message

Our children are the most precious resource of our community and we need to nurture them by providing the very best education possible.

At Balmacewen learning is a partnership in which parents and school work together to develop young people who will be the confident, caring and capable citizens of the 21st century.

Balmacewen Intermediate offers education programmes that are innovative and child centred, fun yet challenging. Our students develop skills, knowledge and personal values that enable them to succeed in the future.

Our programmes reflect the unique stage of development students are encountering. Strong emphasis is given to personal and social skills throughout the year based on shared beliefs of Balmacewen Intermediate and the school community.

  • We believe students learn best in an environment which is emotionally and physically safe.
  • We believe students will learn best when part of a community of learners, that is, when the school, home and the wider community work in partnership.
  • We believe emerging adolescents have unique needs and that teachers and programmes should respond to these.
  • We believe teachers should be positive role models who are life long learners and reflective practitioners.
  • We believe students learn best in a school that is well resourced.
  • We believe students learn best in an environment that is attractive, values learning and reflects the needs and achievement of the students.
  • We believe students learn best when they are empowered within an environment that fosters respect for self and others, cooperation and understanding.
  • We believe our programmes should help students acquire personal skills and knowledge through a range of contexts and:

- give priority to success in Literacy and Numeracy.

- promote physical activity.

- give opportunities for artistic expression.

- teach problem solving and thinking skills.

- allow for student directed learning.

- provide appropriate "how to learn" strategies for personal achievement in education and life.

We encourage every student to develop their talents whilst taking the opportunity to try new activities in the areas of sport and culture.

The nature of our school and the skill of our teachers allow us to provide many new experiences both inside the classroom and out, supported in an environment of care and respect.

The shared responsibility between school and home is critical to your child's success. We welcome parent's involvement at Balmacewen Intermediate and encourage communication in both formal and informal settings.

We are proud of Balmacewen Intermediates achievements in academic, sporting and cultural activities and welcome you to share the excellent and exciting education experience we offer.
